The committee for examining the water meters in Ra’anana has finished its work and submitted its conclusions and recommendations to the board of directors

The external and independent committee was established by the chairman of the board of directors, architect Aryeh Maor, and with the approval of the board of directors, and began its activities in February 2021. The establishment of the committee followed a “resident dialogue” promoted by the mayor, Mr. Haim Broida. The committee was chaired by Asher Beharev, and Roo worked with him. H. The special committee that was appointed to check the reliability of the measurement of water consumption using the water meters in Ra’anana, finished its work and submitted its recommendations to the board of directors on June 27, 2021. The committee was chaired by Mr. Asher Beharev, and other members were CPA Iris Stark, who also serves as the president of the CPA Chamber in Israel; Engineer Tzachi Shamir. Today, 30,597 water meters of all types are installed in Ra’anana. As part of its work, the committee sampled 125 water meters from all over the city, which are a representative sample of the city, with different characteristics – in order to make sure that the resulting picture will reliably reflect the state of the water meters in the city. From the tests carried out in the laboratories authorized for this purpose by the Water Authority, it emerged that the corporation meets the standards set by the Water Authority.

The chairman of the inspection committee: “From the moment we received the letter of appointment, we acted quickly and decisively in order to finish, as quickly as possible, and examine in a thorough and professional manner the reliability test of the measurement of the water meters in the city. To our joy, we discovered that the meters are working, reliable and meet the standards of the water authority. However, we recommended to the corporation that it complete the process of replacing the remaining water meters in the city with new KRAM units (which constitute 5% of all meters). We also examined the issue of rising bills in Ra’anana, here too we found that there was an increase in water prices during 2020 and There was an increase in domestic water consumption due to prolonged stay at home during the Corona period”

The committee also examined the issue of the increase in water prices – an issue that many residents referred to. Despite the fact that this was not within the authority of the committee, in light of requests from residents, the committee also examined this issue. An examination of the data shows that in 2020 there was an increase in the water rates, which are determined by the Water Authority and approved by the Israeli Knesset and not by the corporations. In addition, there was a significant increase in water consumption, similar to the rest of the country, following the corona virus.

The chairman of the committee also noted that there was full and transparent cooperation by the CEO Liat Leibovitz and her team, and this was also noted by the other members of the committee during the presentation of the report to the board of directors.
